Harju County - most populous county in Estonia
More than one-third of the population of Estonia live in Harju County, so it’s no wonder that two-thirds of the use and occupancy permits for dwellings last year were issued in urban or small urban settlement areas of Harju County.
The popularity of Harju County as a place to live is increasing year by year, and small towns situated on the border of Tallinn, or the so-called golden circle, as well as other subdistricts with a good transport connection to the capital are preferred. For example, Keila, Saku and Saue towns, Peetri small town and Viimsi rural municipality.
As at the beginning of this year, there were an estimated 589,610 residents in Harju County.
Harju County includes 7 cities, 2 towns, 34 small towns and 397 villages.
